Truly, you are only 6.2 miles from this wonderland, so it is no problem to hail a taxi, book a private form of transportation, or rent a car. The best part is that in just 20 minutes you will feel the sea breeze caressing your face, and your nose will start picking up that distinctly salty smell that tells you that you are reaching the shore.

If there is something that you can’t miss in Nuevo Nayarit, it is the magical performance put on by humpback whales and other marine species such as dolphins, orcas, and manta rays.

This festival honors the great poet and writer Amado Nervo. He is the pride of Tepic and all Nayarit state. More than just literary homage, this is an explosion of creativity, music, and tradition that transforms the region into an authentically artistic scene.
Every November, Tepic’s streets and its surroundings overflow with life thanks to local, national, and international artists who come to share their talents. It may be with thrilling concerts or even plays, or perhaps exhibitions, conferences, or workshops.

Let’s start with a real classic: pescado zarandeado. First cooked up on the island of Isla de Mexcaltitán, this dish involves a whole fish (generally snapper) that is marinated in a magical mix of lime juice, soy sauce, and chili peppers. Then, it is slowly grilled over mangrove wood.
The result? A juicy, smoky flavor that will make you groan with delight. It is garnished with slices of tomato, onion, cucumber, and freshly made tortillas.
But that’s not all, Ixtlán del Río-style chicken is another favorite you must try. The chicken is first cooked then fried in lard until it is golden and crunchy. It is served with crispy fries because they are the best match.
And of course, who could forget the seafood? Because it is right on the shore, you will find shrimp, oysters, and more, prepared every which way. There are soups, enchiladas, and shrimp tamales. From the ocean directly to your taste buds!
On top of all that, fruit brings a tropical twist. It includes mango, bananas, and guanábana (soursop: a large, sweet, creamy fruit). These become sweet desserts or juice and ice cream that can cool you off while you enjoy the warmth of the Pacific coast.
